Developers' enthusiasm for "green" buildings is dampened by the higher construction cost, but advocates of green building say the upfront costs are often outweighed by the savings that come with greater energy efficiency over the long term. According to its developers, a Chinese energy-efficient building has used about 30 percent of the energy of other comparable building and saves 10,000 tons of water each year. Energy experts said the cost savings over the building's 70-year life is enough to build a similar sized building.
